arts-overview.jpgOur students are aware of the importance of the arts in life.  As Christians, they know that life itself, IS God's art!  The faculty of ASCS strives to introduce all areas of the arts to our students, allowing these young people to find the area of the arts that best utilizes the talent that God has given them.

Beginning in grade PreK-3, all students practice visual arts through weekly art classes. The curriculum is built on learning about the creation of God through the study of master artists. The technique and detail of fine arts is taught methodically with an age-appropriate curriculum. Each grade level is able to evaluate their enjoyment and skill level enabling them to learn more about their talents that God placed within them.

Students who display superior talent and ability are invited to join one of the following honor societies:

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Educational Theatre Honor Society

National Art Honor Society

The Musical Arts program is also one that gives students the opportunity to grow and build their musical talents from year to year. Students are encouraged to enjoy the world of music and realize that God loves for us to sing and praise him with worship through song, and music.

Our Music Program includes voice and instrumental training.

The Elementary campus offers music classes weekly to all age groups
as well as an audition-only Honor Choir. These young people sing throughout the
community. ASCS also offers band to 5th and 6th graders. The 4th grade begins
to learn rhythm through the recorder.

The Secondary Campus is home to
three bands based on grade level - this includes Symphonic Band, (High School),
Concert Band, (Middle School), and the highly talented Jazz Ensemble!

The ASCS Band performs at the annual Christmas and Spring concerts. They also perform at district related events (i.e. competitions, festivals, etc), as well as events in the greater Virginia area.

The ASCS Secondary Campus Choral program is offered to all grades. This program includes:

Mixed Chorus and Vocal Ensemble. The Choir traditionally performs at the annual Christmas and Spring concerts.  They have performed in our community at Regent University's Grand Illumination and have sung our National Anthem for both the Norfolk Tides and Hampton Roads Admirals.  This year, our students will be performing at Busch Gardens' Christmas Towne.

The ASCS Secondary Campus Visual Arts program consists of:

Exploratory Art (Middle School); Art I (an art history course), Art II (a techniques and portfolio course), and ART III.
