Wayne Lance- Head Coach

At ASCS: 10 years

The fall of 2017 will kick off Coach Lance’s 11th season at the helm of the Atlantic Shores Football Program. It is Coach Lance’s goal to be a builder of men, instilling godly character through the game of football. In his time at ASCS he has coached 40 young men who have chosen to play football at the collegiate level (16 Division 1 Student-athletes). His 64-43 record sets him apart in the Atlantic Shores Record books as having coached the most games in school history as well as winning the most games surpassing Nat Aydlett during the 2013 season. Overall Coach Lance has Coached 100+ student athletes who have continued on to the collegiate level including 2 who have played in the NFL. His teams have appeared in 3 State Finals, Winning the 2008 State Championship as well as playing in 7 State Semifinals and 10 playoff appearances as a head coach. He has twice been named VISAA Coach of the Year (2008 & 2013)

Coach Lance began his coaching career at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va. as a volunteer under legendary coach Bo Henson. After assisting the Freshman Staff as the Offensive and defensive line coach for a season, Lance was promoted to head freshmen coach and Varsity scout. Lance’s team finished undefeated and was again promoted under head coach Dennis Peters to varsity Defensive Secondary Coach, within 2 years Lance found himself in the position of Defensive coordinator at 27 years old. Not only did Coach Lance Coach Varsity Football, but he was also the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach seeing his team ranked as high as #7 in AAA and was named the Lynchburg News & Advance 2000-01 Girls basketball Coach of the Year.

In the summer of 2001, Lance was named Head Coach at what is now known as Liberty Christian Academy. Prior to Lance’s arrival, LCA had 12 varsity players. By the 2002 season Coach Lance’s Bulldog team reached the VISAA State Semifinals and in 2003 completed an undefeated regular season and were State runner up to a talented St. Anne’s team led by St. Louis Ram, Chris Long. Following the 2003 season 6 LCA players committed to Division 1 teams including current New York Giant Running Back: Rashad Jennings.

Following the 2003-4 school year Coach Lance accepted a job to become the Head Coach at 5A- Kokomo High School in Indiana. Lance Coached for 3 seasons before returning to Virginia to Coach at his onetime rival Atlantic Shores.

Lance graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Physical Education and a B.S. in Sports Management from Liberty University. He also graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, N.Y. Originally from Scranton, PA, Lance played Wide Receiver and Defensive End at Scranton Central High School

Coach Lance met his Wife Melissa in college and the two were married in June of 1996. They Have 4 Children: Jaden (16) Kayleigh (13) Addison (11) and Micah (9). They attend Atlantic Shores Baptist Church.
